Introduction

Hardware and Software upgrade is a continous process in today's time. A newly prodcured hardware or software quickly goes outdated as soon as there is newer released or available in the market.

To meet the incresing hardware resource requirement the Vistualization plays an important role. The hardware virtualization provides the flexiblity to increase or decrease the resources from a large base of available hardware.

In below example we are going install an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS linux as a virtual machine on Windows operating system using VMware Workstation Player.

Prerequisites

  • Admin user privileges on Windows (Host Operating System)

Step-1

Download Ubuntu 20.04 LTS from Download Ubuntu

Step-2

Download VMware Workstation Player from Vmware Workstation Player

Step-3

Install VMware Workstation Player on your Windows computer

Step-4

Start VMware Workstation Player and click on Create A New Virtual Machine

It will open a dialog box New Virtual Machine Wizard

Select the downloaded ISO image of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. You can also select CD/DVD drive in case you have the ISO image in a disk.

After selecting the ISO image click on Next button, it take you to Easy Install Information which is specific to Ubuntu easy setup. Enter the respective information and click on Next

Now at next window you must enter your virtual machine name and select the path where you want to keep the virtual machine image

Now at Specify Disk Capacity windows, you need to provide the maximum image size in GBs and need to select an option whether you want to store the virtual OS image file in a single large file or in multiple smaller files then click on Next button.

Now at Ready to Create Virtual Machine window VM summary is provided

In this window Customize Hardware button is also provided which open a new window Hardware which provides various options and recommendation related to allocation of Processor, Disk Space, RAM, Network, Sound, Printer and Display etc. Once you are done with Customize Hardware click on Finish button.

The next window shows the information about performance and security of virtual machine which you can set as per your requirement

Virtual Machine setup is in progress, wait for the completion.
